We are neighbors in and around Laurel, Maryland, united in our concern with the authoritarian turn of our nation.

About Us

Laurel Resist is an Indivisible group that began as a “huddle” of friends looking to build on the energy and optimism of the Women’s March in 2017. We’ve joined protests and have engaged with every level of government: the Laurel City Council, our County Councils, the Maryland General Assembly, and the U.S. Congress.

Our priority issues are the Environment, Healthcare, Immigrant Rights and Voter Rights & Education.

Our membership surged after the No Kings protests of 2025 and we’re still growing!

From Indivisible’s commitment to non-violence:

From the start, we’ve been committed to non-violence as a guiding principle in everything we do: our protests, our organizing, and our advocacy.

We reject all forms of political violence and intimidation, no matter the source or the target. That’s not just a moral stance—it’s a strategic one. Movements that create lasting change do so by building trust, forging solidarity, and demonstrating discipline, even in the face of threats or attacks.

Non-violence doesn’t mean backing down. It means standing firm in our values, channeling our anger and our hope into action, and refusing to become what we’re fighting against. We are up against a movement that feeds on fear and chaos. Our answer is a movement grounded in courage, solidarity, and the unshakable belief that a better, more just democracy is worth fighting for—together.

We welcome anyone who shares our goals of dignity and compassion for all of our neighbors and co-workers.

Laurel Resist hosts NO KINGS in Laurel

Poster for NO KINGS, Saturday, March 28, with the slogan "Power belongs to the people"

Laurel Resist hosted a very successful NO KINGS on Saturday, March 28!

Over 700 people showed up at the rally in Emancipation Park and at the sign wave in front of the Laurel Regional Library to say: The United States Doesn’t Do Kings.

Senator Chris Van Hollen and Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-4) both spoke at the rally, followed by our president (not that President), who also led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  State, County, and City representatives were also in attendance.  We then marched to Route 198 for the sign wave, and appreciated the big show of support from so many cars and trucks.  The winds were sharp but the atmosphere was glorious!
